A Long Weekend In London

We spent last weekend in London, exploring new places and eating delicious food.

The most noteworthy place we went was Portobello Road ("street where the riches of ages are sold..."). I loved it. There was more to look at than time to look. And the vendors were selling everything you can think of from vintage items to brand new, fresh fruits and vegetables, flowers, art, and all sorts of cooked food. It was such a great place for a perusing and leisurely stroll.

Other highlights included: the Natural History Museum (always free), the Hummingbird Bakery for gluten free cupcakes, and Bella Italia (three times) for gluten free pizza.

It was such a lovely weekend away.

Burnham Market, Norfolk

We just got back from a week in Burnham Market. And, it's safe to say we'll be visiting there again. It had everything we were looking for in a holiday: extremely good (and gluten free friendly) food, quiet, cozy, and near the sea.

We stayed at the Hoste Arms, and spent our days eating, relaxing, exploring the local area, and hiking through the dunes by the sea.

It was beautiful, peaceful, and remarkably Cape Cod-esque; a perfect holiday.

Apparently changing one's name (from maiden to married) on one's documents is not as quick as one would think. Long story short (too late), I didn't get my passport, etc. back in time and we had to cancel our trip to France. Boo.

The good news? My wonderful husband took me to London for a few days, instead.

Though I had been before, I had never done the tourist thing. It was fantastic. We did an open-top bus tour, including a river tour of the Thames (Definitely do this. It was amazing; not too tourist-y). We ate gluten free pizza, and TONS of sushi. And we visited all of our favourite pubs.

For the record: Yes. I went to Ladurée first (and two times after that). And, yes. I spent 20 minutes walking around Whole Foods savoring the atmosphere; it felt like visiting an old friend.

Things I learned: 1) The word "hangover" originated in the days when public hangings were a good excuse for a party. 2) The Lady of Justice statue on top of the Old Bailey is not blindfolded. 3) Savile Row is spelled with one "l". and 4) London is awesome.

I'm sold.
