Before and After: The Kitchen

When we started renovating the kitchen, our goals were: bright, clean, and extremely functional. And because it is a small space, we wanted to be sure to use every inch of it. So, we chose white cabinets and subway tiles for a clean and classic look; installed a tall faucet and deep sink for additional functionality; kept the colour pallet simple; and used the space above the upper cabinets for additional storage.

I love the result. It's such a useful space; I wouldn't change a thing.

First Cherries of the Season

There is a woman who sells freshly picked, local, organic cherries from a little wheeled cart in Canterbury. I see her every summer. Though, this is the first time I have purchased any from her. They looked amazing. I couldn't help myself.

I was so glad I did. They were, in fact, amazing.

Before and After: The Nursery

We finished remodelling our little cottage a while ago. But, I have realised it takes a while to truly finish. It's little things like hanging curtains, shelves, and art that take forever. And I wanted to have all of those little things done before I posted the "Before & After" shots.

So, in honour of hanging the final shelf last weekend, I give you...the nursery.

I put a lot of thought into what James' room would look like. I wanted it to be seaside inspired, masculine, not overly baby-ish, bright and very cosy. I was inspired by Jon Contino's "Born Free" print, this nursery, and loved the way the large pelican print looked in this nursery. I already had the anthropologie plates, the brackets, and one of the prints. And I used Pinterest to be sure what everything would look like before making final purchases.

I love the way this room came together. It's exactly the space I wanted for our little one.

We grew a strawberry...

Everyone knows about British weather; it's incredibly unpredictable. But, I have learned two things about weather since moving here: 1) when it's nice, it's spectacular; and 2) the plants love it.

It has taken two summers, but this year I'm taking advantage. I planted strawberries, tons of tomatoes, rosemary, lavender, mint, thyme, and various purple and pink-flowering plants. I am hoping to add a couple of basil plants this week. And the roses we planted last year are thoroughly enjoying themselves.

I love having endless fragrant blooms to fill my bud vases, and loads of delicious little gems to snack on. Yay summer! C'mon tomatoes!
